Täuschung

This is a hidden, secret religion with few followers. They rarely proselytize and have little interest in converting people to their belief. At any one time there are rarely more than a few hundred members. The sect is very old and has been around for over twenty thousand years.

The Täuschung believe there is one true god, Wahregott, that he maintains and enforces the rules governing reality. Wahregott is a non-interfering god and is bound to follows rules much as the ones he enforces. The Täuschung, however, believe that if enough people demand action/interference from Wahregott, he must step in and act. They believe the fact human belief shapes reality has ramifications going far beyond the ability of a few unstable people to temporarily effect change. They believe all humans have the potential for godhood and in fact that humans are actually fallen gods, imprisoned here for some forgotten crime.

And then it gets dark.

Will they unite humanity and work towards shaping a new utopia? Of course not! The Täuschung believe humanity deserves its punishment and the problem is humanity has forgotten its crime. Until humanity has been sufficiently punished, they shall remain imprisoned.

It is the holy task of the Täuschung to punish humanity. All humanity.

The Täuschung have created the Swarm through sheerest insane delusion. To ensure their victims end up there--rather than some other Afterdeath--they surround them with Täuschung believers as they are killed. The Täuschung have collected fifteen million souls in the last 20,000 years. Once all humanity are trapped within Swarm, Wahregott will free them so they may once again take their place amongst the real gods.

The two original founders, Bösewicht, and Zerfall are still alive. They're insane! They believe Täuschung is their holy task and they are reborn to new bodies--complete with memories of their past lives--each time they die so they may continue. They believe this so strongly it's true. Zerfall was an extremely powerful Haluzin and created Swarm, on her own, from sheer insanity. Enough other people now believe in the hell it would continue without her. Remember: there are now 15 million people in that hell who definitely believe in it!

Bösewicht & Zerfall - The Founders of The Täuschung

Zerfall is over 20,000 years old and is one of the original founders of the Täuschung. She and Bösewicht are/were lovers. They had a falling out for reasons unknown.
